Since 2011, Mr. Weir has been consulting globally to Oilfield service companies, artificial lift providers, new technology start-ups, Oil & Gas operators and Private Equity Investors. Mr. Weir is recognized as an industry leader in PCP-ALS and coiled rod systems actively participating in Joint Industry projects, ISO standardization workgroups and presenting/authoring at numerous symposiums/conferences (lifetime SPE member).
In 2004, Mr. Weir was a founder of Tierra Alta Group. As the Chief Technical Officer Mr. Weir led the design, development and support of a new innovative Progressing Cavity Pump (PCP) Product line and support of the Coiled Sucker Rod Products and Services. During this time, Mr. Weir was integral to Tierra Alta successfully implementing many industry firsts. Mr. Weir spec’d out the processes and equipment and assisted Tierra Alta to custom-build a Best in class PCP manufacturing facility in Venezuela. Mr. Weir managed a project that was the first installation and service of coiled sucker rod in Europe. Tierra Alta introduced Flush-by and coiled rod service equipment to the Middle East and provided the first Flush-by equipment into Africa.
Mr. Weir started his career in artificial lift when PCP was an emerging mode of artificial lift, joining Widney-Corod (a GE company) in 1991, just prior to being acquired by Energy Ventures Inc, which became Weatherford in 1998. Mr. Weir was an instrumental part of the management team that directed Weatherford to become the industry leader in the global PCP-ALS market. During this time, Mr. Weir gained experience successfully applying and supporting artificial lift systems in virtually all the world's major conventional and unconventional producing areas with the broad spectrum from Heavy Oil and bitumen through to dewatering gas fields, both onshore and offshore.
In 1980, after graduating from the Petroleum Engineering program at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Mr. Weir spent 10 years in the pressure pumping sector, working mainly for Dowell (Schlumberger), achieving the level of Service Supervisor III. At the time Mr. Weir was the youngest person to attain SSIII and the only Supervisor in Canada proficient in the complete suite of services Dowell provided, including Cementing, Acidizing, Nitrogen, Hydraulic Fracturing, Coiled Tubing Services as well as Mining & Construction services.
